Ruchita Varma of the Peepal Tree
"From Building blocks to Block printing
"I am trained as an architect and have worked as one for years. I took a break from architecture 5 years ago after my older son was born and I wanted to spend more time with him, then my younger son was born 2 years later and that's when I decided to start my own business which would give me some flexibility in regards to my time.
"I love clothes and design and think that it's a perfect way to combine both my passions. Being from India I wanted to bring something unique to these pieces and decided to do block printing using traditional wood blocks.
"I have the following products like beautiful, soft cotton scarves, baby onesies, children's tshirts, tank tops for women, shirts for women, cards and paper bags.
Very soon I will have some Eco-friendly jute bags as well. I am working on the design right now!
"I work from home, dyeing my own pieces. I also pick up beautiful cotton fabric and wood blocks every time I visit India. My wood blocks are of animals like elephants, fish, leaves and flowers. They are made by artisans in India who hand carve them and are art pieces on their own!
"I hope you enjoy my products as much as I enjoy making them."
